A world-class art museum with free admission — only in LA. The Getty Center sits atop a Brentwood hilltop with sweeping views from the mountains to the ocean. The Richard Meier-designed campus is a stunning collection of travertine and glass buildings connected by gardens, fountains, and walkways that are works of art themselves. The collection spans European paintings, drawings, sculpture, illuminated manuscripts, decorative arts, and photography from the Middle Ages to the present. Van Gogh's Irises, Monet's haystacks, Rembrandt portraits — the caliber of art here rivals any museum on the planet. The Central Garden by Robert Irwin is a living sculpture that changes with the seasons. Take the free tram up from the parking structure (parking is $20, the only cost) and spend hours wandering. The museum cafe has incredible views. Sunset at the Getty is one of the best free experiences in Los Angeles. Bring a jacket — it's always a few degrees cooler up on the hill.</p>
